Every time I start the game and join the NA server, my name is not recognized. I always end up as UnnamedPlayer. I have to manually set my name either in game or before joining the server. Is there any setup I need to do in order for my name to be recognized?

Nope. Try /name in the console.

Go to %appdata%/daemon and delete the guid/pubkey there. Also delete the others in %appdata%/daemon/profiles/[username] which have the same name if it doesnt work for you. The game should create a new one which should be recognised.
Another cause could be that your game "cannot find" your application data. This has happened to me a lot before on tremulous gpp, and i'm not sure of the cause. Only thing that is when you enter a server, the server says '.... is an admin. Please pick a new name.'
