Some Windows users have a problem that iit lookkss lliikkee tthiiss when they type. Ishq has explained how to fix it by downgrading SDL. The solution, assuming you are using the 32-bit Unvanquished binary, is to download the SDL2.dll from http://www.libsdl.org/release/SDL2-2.0.0-win32-x86.zip . Then, use this file to replace the SDL2.dll in your Unvanquished directory in Program Files.
